Beatrice Wamey, PhD.
President and CEO
Dr. Wamey, is the founder and current president and CEO of Nascent Solutions. Doc, as she is fondly referred to by her colleagues, started Nascent 13 years ago with the goal of empowering the vulnerable. Since then, and with her leadership, Nascent has partnered with several organizations including USDA, USAID, and Books for Africa, in making positive and sustainable change in the fields of Education, Nutrition, and Agriculture, in rural Africa.
Doc holds two Doctorate Degrees in Philosophy, in Education/ Instructional Technology and another in Instructional Systems Technology, both from the Indiana University Bloomington. She is fluent in English, French, Oku, Lamnso Noni, and Pidgin.
Doc. enjoys a good game of scrabble in her free time and her grandchildren provide the perfect escape from work.
Patrick Gallagher, MPH.
Director of Monitoring and Evaluation
Patrick leads Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning at Nascent solutions. He has worked in the public health, food security and nutrition, agriculture, and education sectors across sub-Saharan Africa, promoting M&E for organizational learning, evidence-base decision-making, and stakeholder accountability.
Patrick holds a Master of Public Health degree in global epidemiology from Emory University and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance from the University of Notre Dame.
In his free time, Patrick enjoys hiking and camping.
Joanne Korandu, MSEM.
Joanne joined Nascent Solutions in May, 2017, as a program manager. She is a seasoned non-profit management professional with over 12 years’ experience in grant-making, contract and project management, stakeholder engagement, and capacity development. As a young girl growing up in Nairobi, Kenya, her volunteer work on clean water campaigns exposed her to the effects of poverty, on the lives of children; since then, she has focused on improving outcomes for vulnerable populations.
Joanne holds a Master of Science degree in Emergency Management, from the University of Maryland Baltimore County and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from the University of Maryland University College. Joanne is fluent in English, Swahili, Meru, Embu, Kikuyu, Kamba, and is conversational in Japanese.
In her free time, Joanne enjoys reading, travelling, hiking, and spending time with family.
Truphena Choti, PhD.
Director of Education
Dr. Choti is the Director for Education and Literacy at Nascent Solutions. She is has more than 20 years’ experience in international development as a technical specialist, applied researcher, educator, and trainer. As an educator, she has taught all levels of education from Kindergarten to graduate school. She has provided technical assistance in early grade reading, teacher professional development and girls’ education to several Sub Saharan African countries, collaborating with Ministries of Education, teachers’ unions, and other civil society organizations under a diverse array of donors.
Dr. Choti holds a Doctorate degree in in International Education Policy and a Master’s degree in Education Policy both from the University of Maryland, College Park. She is fluent in English, Swahili, and Kisii.
In her free time, Dr. Choti enjoys camping, reading and working with the youth.
Director of Finance and Administration
Mitiku joined Nascent Solutions in August of 2015 as the Director of Finance and Administration. He has more than 10 years of progressive experience in Finance and Grant management both in United States and internationally. Mitiku’s leadership experience includes positions as CFO, Controller, and Finance Business Partner for World Vision (VisionFund Ethiopia), Syngenta, and Ethiopia Commodity Exchange, respectively.
Mitiku holds Bachelor degrees from Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia, in Accounting and Development Economics. He is a certified CPA and a member of a Virginia’s Society of CPAs. Mitiku is also a Chartered Certified Accountant of the ACCA – a global accounting professional body based in United Kingdom.
In his free time, Mitiku enjoys reading and keeping abreast of global affairs.
Global Execution Agents
Nascent’s strongly believes in engaging those who live in the communities we serve therefore, our business model is largely decentralized. We currently have a field staff of over 35 employees located all over our Africa.
Charlotte Joined Nascent Solutions three years ago. She provides administrative and accounting support as an accounting clerk and office manager. Her background includes seven years’ experience in various industries including teaching, hospitality, and health. Charlotte moved to the United States from Cameroon five years ago.
Charlotte holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Management for the University of Yaoundé II-Soa and is currently pursuing additional degrees in Accounting and Information and Operations Management from George Mason University. She is fluent in English, French, Oku, Pidgin, Franglais.
In her free time, Charlotte enjoys spending time with family, traveling, watching movies, and dancing.
