Who We Are
History
Nascent Solutions was founded in September 2004 by Dr. Beatrice Wamey, a US citizen of Cameroonian origin. It is a humanitarian and development organization incorporated in the state of Virginia and a 501 (C) (3) organization with the U.S Internal Revenue Service. Dr. Wamey, founder and current president of Nascent Solutions ran the organization from her 5X6 foot study in her home in Fairfax Station, VA, from November 2004 till May 2007 when the organization moved to its current location in Suite 500 of 85 South Bragg Street in Alexandria.
Driven by their passion to help the less privileged, the Wameys made a lot of sacrifices and took risks to enable Beatrice devote a full time effort to learn, develop a strategy, network and identify partners to ensure that the organization took off successfully. In this effort the Wameys refinanced their house and took out a home equity line of credit to sustain the organization in its infancy.
The successes of the first year were thanks to the support of the family, the commitment of the founder and the timely support of such partners as her parish church, the Church of Nativity in Burke, VA, which sponsored beneficiaries from rural Cameroon to participate in training activities in the United states, and paid for shipping of medical equipment for rural health centers in some of the remote areas of the country.
Of the 19 applications for grants and donations sent out in 2005 only one, the Hilton Sisters' Fund came with a positive response, largely because the targeted project was managed by a nun at the John Paul II Youth center of the Diocese of Kumbo.
After eighteen months of operations, Nascent Solutions applied for registration with the US Agency for International Development but was turned down because the organization's financial records for the year were all in red. But the attempt alone was a significant mile stone as it motivated the founder, and soon after obtaining its tax exempt status, Nascent Solutions launched consultations with U.S based and other international and faith-based organizations and has cultivated good partnerships with several of them.
In March 2007, Nascent Solutions was registered as a Public Volunteer Organization (PVO) with the United States Agency for International Development. The organization has established a strong field presence in several African countries including Cameroon, Uganda and Zambia.
