The African Child's Dream List

The wish list for an African child is comprised of the bare essentials for life; it really is more a dream list than a wish least, because most of what she might wish for would never be realized. It consists of basic health, clothing, food and educational assistance for school fees, books and other supplies. Many of these needs can be met for an entire year for the price of dinner for an American family of four.

Your family might be the one that sacrifices that treat at Wendy's to give a child and her family a chance at a full life.

Medication

what5 (53K)For many children Africa, like Rita whose family lives on about 50 cents a day, the chance of surviving to age five is 1 in 4. While the causes for this situation are many, such as a doctor to patient ratio, in rural communities of 1 to 100,000, the most common cause is lack of medication or the inability to pay for it where it exists. That is why Nascent Solutions not only solicits cash donations to pay for needed medicines, but also gratefully accepts in-kind donations of common over the counter drugs that could save the lives of thousands of children.

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) says that Zambia's maternal mortality rate continues at an unacceptably high level. While maternal mortality figures vary widely by source and are highly controversial, the best estimates for Zambia suggest that approximately 4,000 women and girls die each year due to pregnancy-related complications. It says another 80,000 to 120,000 Zambian women and girls will suffer from disabilities caused by complications during pregnancy and childbirth each year.

According to UNICEF, conditions for Cameroon's children have deteriorated in recent years. Infant and under-five mortality rates in 2005 were actually higher than their 1990 levels and maternal mortality is alarmingly high. The UN Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) also says that, In Cameroon, maternal mortality has increased from 430 in 1998 to 669 deaths per 100 000 live births in 2004. Similarly, neonatal mortality is on the rise and the ratio stands at 42 deaths per 1000 live births

Direct Relief International, an NGO, says that physicians in Cameroon face some of the most extreme healthcare challenges in the world. They are continually faced with chronic shortages of medicines, medical supplies, and proper medical equipment.

Please help us get some medications to alleviate this alarming situation
