Dr. Wamey, is the founder and current president and CEO of Nascent Solutions. Doc, as she is fondly referred to by her colleagues, started Nascent 14 years ago with the goal of empowering the vulnerable. With her leadership, Nascent has partnered with several organizations including USDA, USAID, DOD, her co-parishioners at the Nativity Catholic Church in Burke, VA, and Books for Africa, to bring positive and sustainable change in the fields of Education, Nutrition, and Agriculture, to rural Africa. Doc holds two Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degrees, one in Education/ Instructional Technology and another in Instructional Systems Technology, both from Indiana University, Bloomington. She is fluent in English, French, Oku, Lamnso, Noni, and Pidgin. Doc enjoys a good game of scrabble in her free time and her grandchildren provide the perfect escape from work.
Dr. Lennox A. Graham is an innovative educator and practitioner with extensive experience in the design, delivery, evaluation, and enhancement of effective instructional programs and management assessment models. He is a highly articulate and effective communicator with excellent team building and interpersonal skills; working well with individuals at all levels to accomplish strategic goals. As an Associate Health Manager and Outreach Director, he developed and expanded programs for scientific research; assisted in the education of new doctors in teaching hospitals; developed procedures for quality assurance, patient services, medical treatments, department activities and public relations outreach; and he has also participated in fundraising and community health planning.
As the Executive Director of Programs, Michael serves as the principal representative for Nascent’s entire program team and portfolio. Michael oversees both the HQ Program Team and all of Nascent’s country offices. In this capacity, he ensures adherence to the overall technical and programmatic quality of program implementation, compliance with donor rules and regulations, coordination of project activities, and provides strategic and operational leadership to advance Nascent’s goals. Michael brings 13 years of leadership experience in the humanitarian and development sector overseeing multimillion-dollar institutional awards at organizations such as Save the Children and International Medical Corps. He has led diverse multisectoral response teams for complex portfolios in challenging environments on every continent, including protracted conflict, civil war, sudden onset/natural disasters and major infectious disease outbreaks. Specializing in humanitarian response and recovery planning, Michael possesses an in-depth knowledge of the global humanitarian and development architecture and has significant experience establishing agency strategy and overseeing quality programs with a large cohort of donors including USAID, ECHO/DFID, United Nations and large foundations. He is completing his master’s degree in public health at the University of South Florida and is fluent in English and French.
Dr. Choti is the Director for Education and Literacy at Nascent Solutions. She has more than 20 years’ experience in international development as a technical specialist, applied researcher, educator, and trainer. As an educator, she has taught at all levels of education, from Kindergarten to graduate school. She has provided technical assistance in early grade reading, teacher professional development and girls’ education to several Sub Saharan African countries, collaborating with Ministries of Education, teachers’ unions, and other civil society organizations under a diverse array of donors. Dr. Choti holds a Doctorate degree in in International Education Policy and a Master’s degree in Education Policy both from the University of Maryland, College Park. She is fluent in English, Swahili, and Kisii. In her free time, Dr. Choti enjoys camping, reading and working with the youth.
Patrick leads Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning at Nascent solutions. He has worked in the public health, food security and nutrition, agriculture, and education sectors across sub-Saharan Africa, promoting M&E for organizational learning, evidence-based decision-making, and stakeholder accountability. Patrick holds a Master of Public Health degree in global epidemiology from Emory University and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance from the University of Notre Dame. In his free time, Patrick enjoys hiking and camping.
Dr. Ochanda provides leadership, strategy and technical support to Nascent’s food security and nutrition programs. He has over 30 years of experience in crop production, applied agricultural research, and food security and is passionate about climate-smart agriculture and building the capacity of local farmers to grow and diversify crops native to Africa. Prior to joining Nascent, Dr. Ochanda was the Country Director for the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) in South Sudan where he developed proposals that resulted in the establishment of 11 local private seed companies in South Sudan. He holds a Ph.D. in plant breeding and genetics from Kansas State University and is fluent in English, Kiswahili and Luo.
As the Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition Specialist, Naisiadet brings over 23 years of experience in reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health and HIV/AIDS programming to Nascent. Prior to joining Nascent, Naisiadet held top advisor roles for organizations such as the United Nations Fund for Population Activities, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization. Unafraid of challenging the norm, she spearheaded a $2 million project in support of UNICEF’s Children and AIDS Global Campaign that emphasized involving men in prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission (PMTCT) services—an approach that was unheard of at the time. She holds a master’s degree in child health studies from the University of Minnesota and is fluent in English, Kiswahili and French.
As the Country Program Manager, Wilfred oversees Nascent’s strategy development and program implementation in Liberia. He has over 15 years of experience in program management, grants management, capacity building, and program monitoring, evaluation, and research. Prior to joining Nascent, Wilfred held leadership roles with prominent organizations such as the Open Society Initiative for West Africa, Geneva Global, Jhpiego, Right to Play, Plan-International and the Norwegian Refugee Council. He has also served as a psychosocial agent at the Center for Victims of Torture in Sierra Leone.
Robert has 20 years of proven experience in designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating health and nutrition, HIV and AIDS, agriculture and social and behavior change communication projects in Malawi. Robert has sound background in overseeing million dollar-projects in Malawi funded by The Global Fund, USAID, European Union, UNFPA and currently USDA. He has skills in forging strategic partnerships, project planning and implementation, human resource and financial management, quality assurance, advocacy and communication (SBCC).
Emily holds a Masters in International Public Health from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, University of Liverpool, Liverpool, United Kingdom. She has 20 years’ experience in various related roles which include managing projects from different donors. I have managed projects with funding from USDA, USAID, PEPFAR, Pfizer Foundation, Crown Foundation and private donors (Sponsorship). I have worked on the following projects: • Food for Education • Maternal Newborn and Child Health Manager (integrated family planning, immunization and integrated management of childhood illnesses). • Education • Sexual and Reproductive health • Adolescent Development • HIV and AIDS • Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
As the Chief of Party, Henry leads the implementation of Nascent’s program in Cameroon. He oversees program finance and administration, coordinates all program activities and liaises with local government, international partners and other NGOs. He brings over 20 years of experience in international development program management with more than 15 years at the director level. Over the past four years, Henry has helped us expand our program funding in Cameroon from $1 million to over $25 million with a local staff of more than 65 people. Prior to joining Nascent, he led a $25 million program in Tanzania. Henry has worked with a vast cohort of donors including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, International Fund for Agricultural Development, European Union, MasterCard Foundation and the Starbucks Foundation. He holds a master’s degree in development management as well as a Ph.D. in veterinary medicine.
As the Country Program Manager/ Deputy Chief of Party for Cameroon, Regular manages national programmatic planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting for Nascent’s work in Cameroon. She has 14 years of experience in project management, capacity building for local organizations, agri-business development and agricultural extension. Prior to joining Nascent, she served as a consultant for prominent organizations such as Plan International Cameroon, World Wide Fund for Nature and SNV. She has also led women empowerment, agricultural, social welfare, environmental protection and education initiatives with Strategic Humanitarian Services (SHUMAS) Cameroon. Regular holds a master’s degree in agronomy from the University of Dschang Cameroon and is fluent in English and French.
